| Towards a Federated European Virtual University |
The main focus of this project is to establish the groundwork for a Federated European Virtual University through a broker service (the CUBER system) that provides access to the vast array of courses offered by European higher education providers and, in particular, distance teaching universities.
| A Unified View on the Variety of European Courses |
The CUBER system will be based upon standardized descriptions of courses and will, in this way, be able to preserve the identity of each participating university's teaching and tutoring system, style of delivery, and business model. Even though courses are distributed across a multitude of European universities and taught in a host of languages, the standardized meta-data will allow the broker to provide a unified single-system view of the rich variety of course offers.
| Making Courses Comparable and Exchangeable |
The unified meta-data descriptions and the CUBER system will enable the development of a powerful search and broker engine and, in this way, support comparison and exchange of courses among different European universities.
