The Approach
The development of the CUBER system will be based on the experiences of the distance teaching universities with their users' special needs and learning conditions as well as on market and user studies. It will use international standards and pseudo standards where ever possible.
Iterative System Development
It will proceed in iterative cycles of development, evaluation, and feedback of test users. Early in the project, a curriculum broker demonstrator will be implemented and tested with selected user scenarios to gain feedback on the design of the broker service and its dialog interfaces.
Continuous Evaluation
The first demonstrator and other partial system components will be gauged by an evaluation team within the project. Results of this "formative evaluation" will be used to enhance future versions.
In addition external focus groups and an advisory board of different target groups will continuously evaluate intermediate project results and provide feedback to the software developers.
Early Content Acquisition
The university partners will contribute to the acquisition of meta-data instances for a large collection of IT courses. The format of meta-data will also be adapted to the requirements encountered during system development and evaluation. This means that the test collection of course descriptions has to be maintained and updated accordingly.
